Driving Home, Dr. Ehud Sela

Driving home that Easter Sunday
the setting sun imbued the cables
between the power poles
with brighter hues.

The sky, anemic blue
dust was in the air and
on the usually crowded road
there was no one else but me.

Oddly, the brighter hues brought out
the darkness in the loosely hung cables
ready to be tightened like a noose.

These days I die so many deaths
yet, I chose the path I’m in.
I know the perils, still I march.
